Bob Hooper, an artist born in Detroit, Michigan, currently lives and works in the greater Chicago area. He is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship for Creative Arts (US & Canada) and a Rome Prize Fellowship in Painting from the American Academy in Rome. He has also been awarded a Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant and a grant from the John Anson Kittredge Fund.
Hooper's work has been reviewed in publications including Artforum, The New Art Examiner, and the Boston Globe. His work is in the collections of the Hunter Museum of American Art and the Rose Art Museum, as well as in private collections.
Recent solo exhibitions include shows at 65GRAND Gallery and Regards Gallery in Chicago, and a recent group show with Good Weather Gallery. His work was previously represented by the Genovese/Sullivan Gallery in Boston.
He received his MFA from the Yale University School of Art and his BFA from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He also attended the New York Studio School.
In addition to his studio work, Hooper has taught graduate and undergraduate art students at the University of Chicago, Brandeis University, and the University of Indiana, Bloomington. He has been a guest critic and lecturer at colleges including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Boston University, Wellesley College, and Bates College.
